Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to table the sugar deal between Kenya and Uganda.

Speaking on Friday at Nyosia in Nyaribari Chache Constituency during a burial ceremony, Bosire demanded that the government put the deal on the table for Kenyans to know what it entails.

The MP who is also the ODM national treasurer opposed to the deal saying it is meant to cripple the sugar cane sector in Kenya.

“We are being misled in the deal. Why is the government not putting the deal open to the public? Only a few rich are going to benefit from the conspiracy. We will not relent till we have understood what the deal is all about and the terms,” said Bosire.

“Farmers have suffered yet another enormous blow after long time affliction over poor pay on sugar cane. It will be reviving their wounds by by-passing them for outside products yet we produce excess sugar in our country. Why could the government not find a market for the product instead?” he questioned.

The opposition, led by Raila Odinga has opposed the deal arguing that it will sabotage the sugar industry in Kenya.

In a quick rejoinder, Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni has told off Odinga over the sugar deal saying EAC is one region and there should be open business laws to foster development in member states.

The government has been in forefront in the fight to silence the opposition on the sugar deal debate with the latest being the National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale who is threatening to seek judicial redress over claims that Raila Odinga’s companies owe Mumias Sugar Company huge debt.
