Needy Kibera students joining secondary schools are set to benefit from a scholarship program supported by Oasis Africa Australia (OAA).
Oasis Africa Australia will provide funds for a maximum of 10 students every year to carter for full tuition and administration fees, school uniforms, learning materials and boarding fee for students in boarding schools.
The scholarship is available to students from Kibera slum who attain 350 marks in KCPE. They will be required to submit an application before attending a face-to-face interview with OAA.
Boarding schools and day schools shall be given equal proprieties in terms the number of scholarship offered. Five students are targeted for each case.
Addressing a meeting attended by Kibera constituency head teachers at CDF office on Friday, the CDF chairperson Ms Leah Asego expressed delight in the program that she said is meant to transform lives by breaking the poverty cycle.
"We are privileged to get the opportunity to secure scholarships for our students. We talked to Oasis about this and they honoured. It is now up to the head teachers to fill the forms and submit to the CDF office because it is good that our teachers understand more about the students because they spend most of their time with them," said Leah.
Ms Asego issued the head teachers with the application forms which indicated that once the scholarship is awarded, minimum grades and behaviour standards must be adhered to in order for all beneficiaries to retain their scholarship funding.
