The British government has pledged to mobilise investors to do business in Kisumu.
Outgoing British High Commissioner to Kenya Christian Turner said massive investments by British investors will bring industries for job creation for the many unemployed youth.
Speaking during a breakfast meeting with Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma at the Imperial Hotel on Wednesday, he said his government will continue to support various development projects in the county.
The leaders discussed a number of areas open for investment in Kisumu and the Lake region. Turner promised to provide information to the British investors in various economic areas. He said his government is pleased with the process of ensuring the success of the devolved system.
Turner said his government has set aside funds through the Department for International Development, to facilitate projects in Kisumu county.
He said the British government will oversee all the projects through the Kenyan high commission. The envoy said the continued relationship between Kenya and Britain will facilitate social projects towards improving Kenyans' living standards.
“We will continue supporting community-based projects such as water projects, education improvement projects, youth empowerment, among other initiatives in Kenya,” he said.
Ranguma said he is pleased with the support of the British government in developments in the county. He stated that the local conditions are right for investments with a lot of improvements in regard to security.
“Kisumu is positioning herself as a hub for the larger lake region,” the governor said.
Ranguma mentioned the Lake Region Economic Block (LREB) and asked for support from the partners to realise the region's potential.
