Youths in Uasin Gishu County have been advised to apply for loans to start businesses instead of engaging in alcoholism.
County Alcoholics Drinks and Control Board director, Armstrong Rono, said this will prevent youths from engaging in drug and substance abuse as they will be busy running their businesses.
Speaking at his office in Eldoret on Monday, Rono said most youths in the region have been affected by illicit brews.
The director at the same underscored the need to help addicts get back onto their feet through income-generating projects.
“The county government should help these addicts get jobs so that they are not tempted to relapse,” he said.
The official said his office was collaborating with the county government to start programmes that will help addicts.
He said proposals to start sporting activities with the aim of keeping youths busy are in the pipeline.
Rono further stated that they will crack down on rogue bars.
He urged genuine bar operators and liquor sellers to adhere to government regulations if they want to survive in the alcoholic industry
