Residents of Iruga sub location in Yatta sub-county have been urged to remain calm as a land dispute pitting the locals and a church is solved.
Speaking during a public meeting at Uika, Uika Chief John Musyoni told the residents to let the court decide on who owns the land.
The PEFA church is involved in a legal tussle with the community over a piece land, where the church operates a dispensary and is constructing a school.
The resident say that the legal tussle has taken too long since 1998 when the case was taken to court.
They said they now want to build a school so as to cater for the increasing number of children going to school in the area.
The chief said the residents have a right to claim a part of the land since it was for the purpose of promoting development in the area and that he is working closely with the authorities to ensure the dispute is solved immediately.
He asked the authorities to solve the matter quickly to avert rising tension.
