Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has been asked to woo investors to help generate more power for consumption by local industries.

Lake Basin Development Authority Board member Engineer Julius Aguko noted that Kisumu needs alternative energy sources to supplement electricity supplied by Kenya Power.

Mr Aguko said electricity supplied by Kenya Power was insufficient to address local domestic and industry needs.

Speaking to the press at a Kisumu Hotel on Monday, Mr Aguko said the sprawling industries at the lakeside county would in the long run need more power operate.

He called on Governor Ranguma to invite investors to generate more power as the population of the county increases.

"It only takes the governor and his deputy the initiative to look for investors to help fund the project," Mr Aguko said.

"It might be a long term project but the benefits will be enjoyed for a long time."

West Kisumu MCA Paul Okiri hailed the idea saying the residents suffer from frequent power blackouts leading to high insecurity in the county.

Mr Okiri said with the power generating project in place, the future of the county's economy would be safeguarded.
