Kenyans have been urged not walk long distances along busy roads to avoid smoke poisoning.

Speaking in Naivasha during cancer awareness, Joseph Oduor, an environmentalist and lecturer at the University of Nairobi said fumes released from vehicles are poisonous and can lead to cancer and other respiratory diseases.

"The fumes that are released from vehicles are very poisonous and can lead to cancer and other dangerous diseases such as asthma," said Oduor.

He advised the public not to walk long distances on busy roads as a lot of fumes are released therefore endangering their lives and other creatures.

He advised the government to come up with regulations that will control the release of fumes from vehicles and industries in order to save Kenyans from dangerous diseases.

"It’s a high time that government should come up with regulations to control the release of fumes from vehicles and industries,” he said.

“Some vehicles release a lot of smoke on our roads but nobody cares. Kenyans should wake up and control this.”

He said the increase in cancer cases is not only contributed by eating habits but also a dirty environment.
