The Director of Health in Nyamira County Mr Jack Magara has thanked the Catholic Church members and their leaders for giving the polio vaccination campaign their support.
He noted that the population of children who were vaccinated in Nyamira County was above what they had targeted.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday in Nyamira town, the director noted that they vaccinated 127,147 children which translate to 109 per cent of their target.
“We had a target of vaccinating the population of 116,260 children but we vaccinated the higher population which we never expected,” said Magara.
The director said the members of Catholic Church and their leaders participated well as compared to members of other churches despite the fact that before the exercise began the church was opposing the exercise.
He said he took time to explain to the Catholic leaders in Nyamira County about the goodness of polio vaccination. He said the leaders accepted it and they challenged parents in the county to take their children for vaccination.
“The catholic leaders accepted the exercise in Nyamira County and we never faced any challenges when we were vaccinating the children. Let them continue in the same spirit,” said Magara.
