Some 17 people are set to be arraigned in court this morning (Wednesday) after last night’s illicit brew raid at Biashara Ward in Ruiru Sub-County.
The police and community policing officers made the raid where they caught six people believed to be the sellers and 11 consumers in the area near Ruiru Prison. In the raid, the police recovered over 1,500 litres of chang’aa.
This comes after area MCA, Joe Mutuga, raised concerns over the increased number of idlers in the area linked to crime incidences that have increased rapidly recently.
Mutuga said that the police have been evading their responsibility of arresting the people as they drink during the day and attack people at night using the chang’aa den for hiding.
Area OCPD, Isaac Thuranira, confirming the incident from his office said that the culprits were arrested selling, drinking or idling at the area with most of them being men while others are women.
He said that they will arraign the culprits in court on Wednesday.
Thuranira has called on area residents to help the police with investigations to identify the places affected by the brews and those being used for the selling and consumption.
Meanwhile, area MP Esther Gathogo has lauded the move and vowed to support them in their operations. She is expected to lead raids in Kimbo this morning.
