Residents of Kisumu County have been urged not to weigh down Governor Jack Ranguma with accusations of corruption in his government and rather allow him to steer the county to better days.
Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga said in most cases Ranguma has been under attack over corruption in the county.
Odinga now says it is not fair to continue claiming that corruption in the county is a mistake of Governor Ranguma.
She said there are many sectors being headed by county executive officers and chief officers who should be responsible for corruption in their dockets.
“Every corruption incident in the county has been blamed on Ranguma yet we have sectors that are running their budgets. Let us look in which docket corruption occurs and take head on the executive officer or chief officer,” she said.
Speaking on Thursday to the press in Kisumu after addressing civil society organisations during a forum organized by Transform Empowerment for Action Initiative (Team), Odinga said she would not blame Ranguma for corruption in the county anymore.
She said that most departments have their budgets and any corruption in those dockets should not be attributed to the governor but rather the heads of those dockets should take responsibility.
Odinga called for support from residents to enable them develop the county and desist from constant criticism on the county performance.
“Instead of making noise outside there that Ranguma is corrupt, the county is corrupt, let us come together and share ideas to help this county to move forward,” she said.
The Deputy Governor has been in the past a critic of Governor Ranguma and her statement today points at a good working relationship with Governor Ranguma.
