Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has asked residents to work with the police to fight criminal elements.

In a briefing with journalists at his office on Saturday, Chemno said that security will improve if locals work with law enforcers. The Deputy Governor said that security is a responsibility of every citizen and not the police alone.

Chemno stated that crime will reduce if there is cooperation between the police and the residents. He urged residents to embrace the security measures being put in place.

He said that for the county to scale on development there must be security. Chemno intimated that the county will work with the national government and other stakeholders to guarantee security.

He asked law enforcers to step up the fight against criminals.

“Our security agencies should be alert every time and thwart security scares that might be experienced,” he said.

He also asked the police to crush outlawed groups that could re-emerge saying that Uasin Gishu will be crime free if there is cooperation among leaders, the law enforcement agencies and the public.

The Deputy Governor also reminded chiefs and local leaders at the grass root levels to sensitise citizens on security initiatives like Nyumba Kumi to streamline security.

At the same time, Chemno asked locals not to discriminate against reforming alcoholics and instead give them the support they need to start their lives afresh.

He said that discriminating against the reforming alcoholics and addicts could make them re-lapse into drinking.

“We need to help people who have reformed from alcohol for them to start again, discriminating or ridiculing them will not help” said Chemno.

The Deputy Governor said the county is working with the National Authority for the Campaign against Drug Abuse (Nacada) and other agencies on programmes that will empower reformed alcoholics.
