Uasin Gishu County deputy governor Daniel Chemno has urged Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) management to sack its official in the county for colluding with petrol dealers to sell untaxed fuel.

Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Chemno said that 100,000 litres of petrol were discovered being sold by petrol dealers at Jua Kali in 2014 but nothing has been done by KRA despite the fact that they were informed of the incident and that the business is going on as usual.

"Kenya Revenue Authority officers in Uasin Gishu are liaising with people selling illegal petrol without paying tax. It is one year since we got the fuel and took it to the SGS for testing to know if the fuel was meant for export which came out positive," he said.

He added that after the test results were out, they called the KRA officials to come and prosecute the people found with the illegal fuel they didn’t show up. Instead, he said, with instruction from the KRA officials, they arrested the wrong people and fined them Sh10,000 and they were allowed to go with their fuel.

"I urge the KRA Commissioner General John Njiraini to do thorough investigations on his officers in Uasin Gishu since they are denying this country a lot of money through taxes. If nothing is done with such officers, Kenya will be declared bankrupt," he warned.
