The director of a children's home in Mavoko has said majority of children's homes in Machakos County do not have income generating activities.
Speaking at the home on Wednesday, Teresiah Kimiti, the founding director of Heritage of Hope and Faith Children Home in Mavoko Sub-County, said the situation had rendered such institutions 'orphaned institutions' making their managers strain and suffer in providing for the needy children under their care.
"How can orphaned children's homes, children rescue centres, children support organisations among other such related institutions support needy children?" she asked.
Kimiti said it was not easy to effectively run such initiatives solemnly by depending on the donor support or sympathy from well wishers.
She said the organisations should invest in income generating activities such as poultry and dairy farming, community water supply, garbage collection among other projects to sustain their running.
According to Kimiti, children in some of the homes do not get the required tender care and support from the providers due to inadequate or complete lack of resources.
