Huruma MCA Patrick Chomba has asked the Uasin Gishu government to help alcoholics in the area get treatment.
Chomba said that alcohol addicts are many in the area and most of them cannot afford treatment. He noted that drug addicts are suffering in silence adding that it will be good if the government came to their aid.
He said that the ward was among those with high cases of alcoholism saying that since the government crackdown on illicit brews and second generation alcohol began one month ago, there has been some noticeable change.
Chomba termed drug and alcohol abuse as the greatest enemy of development. He stated that hundreds of youths had been lured and trapped by alcohol.
“We urge the government to continue the fights against illicit brews,” he said when he addressed residents at Huruma Grounds on Thursday.
Chomba advised area youths to stay off alcohol saying that it has ruined the lives of many. He challenged Huruma youths to engage in other meaningful activities.
The MCA at the same time asked residents to be each other’s keeper. He said that locals have a responsibility to know the welfare of their neighbours.
“We must embrace togetherness and help each other in this life,” he said.
Chomba urged the Uasin Gishu government to fast-track service delivery to the people saying that residents are in dire need of good services.
