A group of worshippers from a local church in Nyamira County have accused its leadership for allegedly conducting fundraisings without putting the funds into a proper usage.

Speaking to Hivisasa on Saturday, members of Getare SDA church in Nyamira said the church had conducted over five harambees with residents managing to raise over Sh100,000 that has allegedly not yielded the intended objective.

They called upon the Nyamira Conference leadership to investigate the church management and put them to the task of accounting for the money in contention.

“We have been collecting money for a number of times to cement the floor of the church but nothing has been done. They have failed to account for the Sh100,000 that we had collected,” said Kefa Omache a church member.

They threatened to boycott a fundraising scheduled for later this month until all the issues in contention are solved.

“We are not going to quit till all issues are addressed. It will be advisable if they suspend the harambee they are planning to avoid embarrassment,” he added.

However, the Church planning committee chairman Mr. Peter Kerosi dismissed the allegations as "church politics" and promised to avail bank statements for the sake of "clarity and accountability".
