The Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) has called on the church to rise up and help rebuild the family unit that is facing collapse as a result of decayed moral fibre.

The church’s moderator The Right Reverend Julius Mwamba said the increasing cases of gender based violence are clear indicator that the institution of marriage which is the basic unit of the family, is threatened with obliteration unless the situation is salvage fast.

Mwamba encourage couples to have tolerance for one another and embrace the spirit of agreeing to disagree in times of differences instead of resulting to violence, which has even ended in deaths.

He said it was unfortunate to see a woman resulting to severing their husband’s private parts like it has happened in the recent past. The moderator was speaking in Nakuru last Friday when he met church leaders from Central Rift during a two day conference.

Mwamba also challenged the government to established rehabilitation centres for drugs and alcohol addicts.

He said drugs and alcohol abuse has been associated with gender violence as those hooked to them abdicate their marital and parental roles resulting to strained family relationships.

The moderator said it was even desirable to have a drug and alcohol rehabilitation unit at every level five hospital to help tackle the problem.
