Residents from Igegania in Gatundu, Kiambu County on Monday demonstrated after a man lost his life and three others hospitalised in Gatundu sub county hospital after consuming illicit brews.

The residents held peaceful demonstrations, saying that they want a county free from illicit brews.

Speaking to the press during the demo, Mr James Mwangi, a church minister at Christ Ministries who led the protests said that illicit brews are still being sold in the area, putting the residents at risk of losing their sons who were liberated from alcohol in the previous campaigns.

He said that they are going to unite once more and fight those bringing back the alcohol as a church and asked the government and local leaders to help them.

“Our sons, brothers and fathers had been liberated from alcohol in the previous vibrant campaign, but now some rogue business people who don’t value the lives of the residents are still brewing illicit liquor. We will continue to fight and destroy the brews. The government should also help us to end such businesses here,” Mwangi said.
