The national government has been asked to increase funding to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to enable it effectively spearhead conflict resolutions in conflict-prone areas.
Diocese of Eldoret Anglican Church Bishop Christopher Ruto says that inadequate funding to the NCIC is to blame for ineffective conflict resolution campaigns.
Speaking to journalists in Eldoret Town on Monday, Ruto said that NCIC needs enough resources to address conflict and spearhead unity and reconciliation across the country.
The Eldoret Anglican Bishop said that NCIC has been reduced into a toothless ‘dog’ due to underfunding of its core activities.
Ruto said that tribal conflicts among pastoral communities will be tackled through proper campaigns that need adequate resources.
The cleric however urged the NCIC to pursue politicians and individuals who engage in hate mongering without favouritism.
He said that some politicians are engaging in hateful talk that could easily plunge the country into conflict.
Ruto stated that NCIC has been given powers to arrest and oversee prosecution of hate mongers.
The Bishop warned re-emergence of hate speech among politicians if appropriate action is not taken against perpetrators.
