More than 30 disabled persons from Masinga sub-county on Thursday benefited from donations from the National Fund for The Disabled of Kenya.

The beneficiaries received sewing machines, leather work tool kits, hair salon kits, barber tool kits and welding machines valued at Sh146,050.

Presenting the donations outside his office, Masinga sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Ben Gachichio cautioned the beneficiaries against selling the items donated to them.

He said it was unfortunate that some disabled persons from other areas have either sold such donations or given them to their relatives and friends as they continue to beg.

Mr Gachichio urged the beneficiaries to utilise the donations to initiate income-generating activities and even employ other disabled persons in their ventures to prove that disability is not inability.

He instructed chiefs and their assistants to sensitise disabled people in their areas to come out and apply for assistance from the government saying that the organisation was set up to assist them.

Speaking at the same function, the Properties Manager with the National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya, Joyce Kitavi said the organisation will empower the disabled to lead a better life by providing specific donations that they apply for.

She cautioned the community against concealing disabled people in their midst saying that the government does not discriminate such people.
