Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Mohammed Abdi has asked residents living in towns to embrace the Nyumba Kumi security initiative and help the police fight crime.
Speaking to the press at his office on Wednesday, Hassan noted that most citizens living in towns have not fully embraced Nyumba Kumi compared to citizens in remote areas.
The county commissioner indicated that reluctance among some residents to embrace Nyumba Kumi has hindered police efforts to fight criminals.
Hassan noted that some residents within towns are reluctant to know their neighbour or report crime.
“Nyumba Kumi has been successful in remote or rural areas compared to towns. The people must change their perception and embrace the initiatives,” he said.
He said that through Nyumba Kumi crime rates will reduce and development realised.
Hassan urged local administrators to continue sensitising residents on the security initiatives being taken by the government.
“We must inform the people at the grass root level on the measures and policies being made by the government to combat crime and restore order,” he said.
On illicit brewing and sale of illegal alcohol, the county commissioner said that his officers will not spare brewers.
He said that illegal brewers will be fought until when they will abandon the illegal business.
Mohammed advised the brewers to embrace activities like farming instead of brewing and selling illegal alcohol.
