Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Mohammed has warned boda boda operators allegedly working with criminals, saying that they will be dealt with accordingly.
Speaking from his office on Thursday, Mr Mohammed said that investigations have been launched into allegations that some boda boda riders within Eldoret town could be colluding with thugs.
The County Commissioner warned that stern action will be taken against operators who will be found to be harbouring criminals.
He stated the government is taking the allegations seriously, adding that rogue boda boda riders should prepare to exit the market.
“We will not allow rogue boda boda operators and any persons to interfere with the security of Uasin Gishu people,” he said.
He urged boda boda riders to work with police and name operators they suspect of colluding with thugs.
The commissioner also asked boda boda riders to register with Saccos, saying that the move will enable the police to monitor their activities easily.
Mohamed said that security across the county will be heightened after it emerged that some outlawed criminal gangs had resurfaced.
The Uasin Gishu Commissioner said that police will be conducting hourly patrols in all towns and estates within the county.
Mohammed urged residents to cooperate with the police and aid them with information on the hideouts of criminals.
