Plans are underway to upgrade Masinga Community Library in Machakos County to enhance a reading culture amongst the residents.
During a stakeholders meeting attended by Masinga deputy county commissioner, Asha Mwanza at Masinga Social hall on Wednesday, area leaders said if the facility was upgraded it would offer knowledge and enlighten more residents.
Mwanza said that the facility would also be beneficial to the youth and students from nearby schools adding that it would have been of great help during the ongoing teachers' strike.
She stressed that there was need to have a community based library that will serve the community and asked the librarian to liaise with her office to improve the facility through the national government.
Among the key issues discussed was the setting up of a kitty to boost the upgrade programme and enable the acquisition of more reading materials.
Ezekiel Ndanu, the librarian, confirmed that there was adequate public space for expansion of the facility.
He said that once the facility was expanded, other services including computer training would be initiated to benefit area residents.
