Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof John Akama has asked students from the university to conduct peaceful campaigns while campaigning for candidates seeking various Kisii University Students Union (KUSU) positions.
Prof Akama clarified that the university policy was clear that the administration gives students freedom to engage in democratic elections to elect their candidates of choice to KUSU, without external interference.
Speaking to the press at his Main campus office, the VC challenged students to elect student leaders who will ensure their interests within the university are addressed with emphasis on their academic welfare and performance as opposed to unnecessary politicking.
He called on the student candidates vying for various positions to be tolerant and ensure that peace and tranquility prevails in the institution before, during and after the elections.
"As a university, we encourage our students and the candidates vying for various KUSU seats to conduct peaceful and non-violent campaigns, to ensure there is peace in the university during and after the elections," he said.
Prof Akama warned the students against misusing their democratic rights during elections.
