Nakuru Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman Peter Ole Osono has criticised Governor Kinuthia Mbugua for warning Cord leaders against holding rallies in Nakuru.
Osono told journalists that the constitution allows the party freedom of movement and speech, adding that they are free to hold and conduct rallies anywhere in the country.
He said the remarks by Mbugua are ill-motivated and the planned rallies will go on in Nakuru.
“It’s unfortunate that some leaders want to take the country back to the years of oppression. We will not be scared by empty threats,” he said.
Early this week, Mbugua asked Cord to stay away from the county, saying they will not allow the opposition to stage rallies in Nakuru.
Mbugua further urged residents to keep off the rallies, saying they are only meant to divide Kenyans.
Osono, however, indicated that the party has no plans of preaching ethnicity. He added that leaders who will take to the stage during the Nakuru rally will be moderated.
He refuted claims that the opposition wants to sabotage the government, saying they only want to share ideas with the government on how to address the issues facing the country.
The opposition leaders plan to hold the Nakuru rally on June 21 at Afraha Stadium.
