The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy has distanced itself from the Media Bill sponsored by Eldas MP Adan Keynan.
Led by Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar during a political rally at Kamukunji grounds in Kibera on Tuesday, the leaders condemned the attempt by some legislatures to enact draconian legislations in a bid to protect the Members of Parliament from scrutiny.
Omar said the opposition does not support the step taken by Keynan to gag the media.
"We as Cord don't support the Media Bill that is sponsored by Adan Keynan. I want to tell Adan Keynan that if you continue doing things that give Jubilee a high ground, you can never be one of us. You should focus on making the people of Wajir better off; these other things won’t help you," said Omar.
The Senator said the opposition shall take necessary action against Keynan and other leaders within its circle who go against the principles of the coalition.
"We shall start taking positions against those who go against Cord fraternity. We tell Keynan that if he continues with such bills, Cord shall take necessary actions against you because that would mean that you don’t represent us," added Omar.
The Mombasa senator was accompanied by other opposition leaders among them Senators Boni Khalwale (Kakamega), James Orengo (Siaya), Elizabeth Ongoro (Nominated) and Nominated MP Oburu Oginga.
