The Kenya Revenue Authority on Thursday destroyed counterfeit Whisky and wines worth Sh4 million in the Western Region.
The 4000 litres of illicit liquor was seized in Kisumu, Busia, Bondo and Kericho. KRA Regional Manager John Orioro said the liquor were seized from unlicensed traders.
While destroying the counterfeits at Kasagam Disposal area in Kisumu Orioro said they are still continuing with the process of eradicating counterfeit products from the Kenyan market.
“These drinks were not properly manufactured and do not adhere to rules and regulations set up by the authority to ensure that only approved products are consumed by the public and taxes due to the government are paid,” he said.
"We need a healthy society and we will ensure we get rid of all illegal products that are being manufactured within the estates,"he said.
Oriero said since the process started, many factories that were not following the required procedures have already been closed down.
The event was presided over by the county commissioner John Elungata and witnessed by representatives from National Campaign against alcohol and drug abuse (Nacada) among other stakeholders.
