Governors have been advised to go back to the drawing board as far development matters is concerned so that everyone in their respective county feels part of the change.

According to the Council of Governors (CoG) chairman Peter Munya, it was time for counties to appreciate the fruits of devolution in a more inclusive way.

“As an umbrella for all counties, we feel some counties have not achieved their minimum targets three years down the line,” he said.

He further stressed the importance of equality, gender balance and good governance saying that these were the basics for prosperity.

“No part of the country should lag behind in development, let’s all adopt policies that will address marginalisation and gender equality,” he noted.

Speaking in a joint press conference at a Nairobi hotel on Monday where all governors agreed to push the national government to allocate more funds to counties Munya challenged all governors to take the initiative of ensuring their counties become leading examples in matters of development.

“We will not relent in our pursuit for all the pending monies at the national government because counties need them for development projects,” he noted.

On his part, Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua has promised to work with investors in ensuring Nakuru became a hub of development in East and Central Africa.

He called on the youth and women to be on the frontline of effecting his development agenda expressing confidence that a society that works with the two marginalised groups is a society that is destined for prosperity.
