The Nakuru county assembly on Thursday passed a motion that will see the introduction of performance contracting for all its staff. The county public service board is expected to adopt this move as part of reforms to improve service delivery in the county. The motion was brought before the house by Joseph Langat from Kapkures ward at a time when different leaders in Nakuru are complaining of poor service delivery by the county executive. Visor ward MCA Gitau seconded the motion, pleading with the county executive, who have already purchased luxurious vehicles, to pass it. Gilgil ward MCA Jane Ngugi blamed the county executive diversion and looting of funds in the county. She said the motion recommendations will make the executive more accountable. Joseph Ng’ang’a, the Kuresoi MCA, supported the motion, saying it would help monitor the county executive. He also called for the impeachment of non-performing county executives. Nominated MCA Ann Njeri suggested that the county executive avail a quarterly report on the performance so that they can be evaluated. The motion was passed and now awaits Governor Kinuthia Mbugua’s signature to approve it.
