County Commissioner nabs overs 1000 litres of illicit brew in a morning raid.
Nyamira county commissioner, Mrs Josephine Onunga has confiscated over 1000 litres of illicit brew in a dawn raid at a homestead in Nyabite village of Bomanyanya Sub location, Nyamira south sub county.
Speaking at the scene, Mrs Onunga who was furious over the area chiefs’ absence during the raid, said that it was so heartbreaking because the war against the local brew was not taken serious by some administrators.
“It’s devastating to note that some administrators like the area chiefs have not joined me in this raid despite informing them in advance, can I be wrong to say that they are colluding with the brewers to conduct this illegal business?” posed Mrs Onunga.
Two women who are co-wives to Thomas Bundi an area resident believed to be the proprietors of the brew were arrested in the morning crackdown.
The suspects would be presented to the Nyamira law courts for charges against manufacturing and sell of an illegal alcohol substance.
Mr Thomas Bundi who is the owner of the homestead is said to have escaped the dragnet and is at large but the police have vowed to pursue him in order to be charged.
The county security co-ordinator, Mr Mwarungu Mwandoe accompanied the county commissioner and vowed to intensify the raids on illicit brewers.
Mwandoe reiterated that his team would relentlessly arrest brewers and consumers of illicit substances with a view to frustrate them from the vice.
“We will stop at nothing in this war against illicit brew which has been a bane to development of this county and country at large,” said Mwandoe.
According to Mrs Onunga, over 100,000 litres of illicit brew have been destroyed in Nyamira County since the President Kenyatta issued a directive to finish the substance in the country 3 weeks ago.
