A section of Kisii residents have criticised the Kisii county government for employing excess employees in the County Assembly.

The residents claim 116 employees have been hired, instead of 54 employees required.

On October 7, the Kisii County assembly deputy majority leader Shem Ondara read the list of all Kisii county employees in the assembly and the list showed that 116 employees are working for the county assembly instead of 54 employees.

The issue has raised questions among Kisii residents that the county government misuses their monies by paying some county workers that should not be paid, contrary to the constitution.

Speaking to journalist on Wednesday in Kisii town, the residents, led by Charles Onkoba, faulted the county government of engaging in excessive expenditure.

They also claimed that the recruited employees do not come from all the 45 wards in the county, saying James Ongwae's administration is biased.

The report that was read last week in Kisii County Assembly shows that Kisii Central ward has more county employees than other wards.

“We need transparency from our county government but we have realised that it has bias for some parts of the county when it comes to employment and development projects,” said Mackson Nyachae, a resident.

He added: “let the government follow the constitution and have balance for all parts of the county”.
