The county government of Nyamira has been lauded for commencing construction of the Mokomoni-Kipkebe road that links the tea farm areas to a nearby tea company.

Mokomoni-Kipkebe road was rendered impassible during the rainy season and residents had protested in September over the same.

Speaking on Monday after the count government commissioned construction of the road, area farmers lauded the government for responding to their plight.

The farmers said the construction of the road was long overdue and they will now be able to transport their tea produce to the tea company and minimise the expenses charged by transporters.

“It is a huge honour that the governor has finally responded to our plight. The road was impassible and it costed farmers a fortune to transport their produce to the Kipkebe company. The transportation expenses will now be reduced significantly,” said Samuel Amisi, a tea farmer.

They farmers however urged the county government to be proactive as a way of reducing discontent among residents.

“We experience hard politics in our county due to the inability of the county government to be proactive but responding to our plight is a sign of good things to come. We will always give them time to deliver,” said Ondieki Gesimba, a farmer.
