The Machakos County government has set aside Sh3 million for upgrading two markets in Yatta.

Katangi Ward MCA Felix Ngui said on Wednesday that the markets will be upgraded to improve on business.

The markets according to Mr Katangi are Kaare and Ngurui.

Each, will receive Sh1.5 million that will be invested in the upgrade he said.

Mr Ngui who was speaking at Katangi Ward during a public meeting after touring the markets said sheds will be constructed in the markets to ensure people carried their businesses under a shade.

Mr Ngui also said the county government had not revised land rates in the ward adding that individuals buying land should not be overcharged.

The MCA however, urged plot owners to pay up their rent arrears to enable the county government utilise the funds to improve facilities in the markets.

The market's upgrade comes at a time residents complained of poor management of markets in the area.

Residents complained three weeks ago that the levies they paid to the county government were not commensurate to the services they received at the market.
