The Uasin Gishu government is determined to ensure the security of its citizens.

Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno said the county government is determined to ensure the security of all residents as well as make it a 24-hour economy.

"To improve security in Eldoret town and its environs, the Uasin Gishu County government has set aside Sh30 million to install security lights in crime prone areas such as Langas, Munyaka, Huruma and the central business district. This will help people conduct their business without anyone bothering them," he said.

He said the security lights will also be installed along the Eldoret to junction footpath and the Langas and Huruma footpaths.

"The street lighting programme is under way and so far we have installed in the Eldoret CBD, Munyaka, Langas and Huruma estates. We will continue until every estate has security lights. This will help curb insecurity by at least 50 per cent,” he added.
