County governments have been urged to embrace ICT technology to enhance easy access of information by the public.

Speaking in Eldoret town on Tuesday, Principal Secretary for ICT and E-government Joseph Tiampati said ICT is vital in this time and age, since it enhances transparency and accountability.

“Through ICT, governments programmes have been computerized where the public can now access information at their convenience thus corruption in government institutions will be a thing of the past since every information will be at their disposal,” he said

He added that the government has embarked on a county management project, where so far twenty eight counties have benefited through the installation of video conferencing gadgets, and soon others counties will follow suit.

He reiterated that the national government will build data centers in all the 47 counties for easy access and scrutiny of government projects, information and the money allocated by the public.

“ICT is the first in the 21st century, the national government launched Smart Kenya ICT master plan in April, which will enhance public getting firsthand information thus reduce wastage of resources,” he added.

The county government has been urged to improve ease in doing business by making it easy for ICT companies to conduct business.

“The county government should collaborate with national government through signing of memorandum for the national government to know what they can do and where it can chip in,” he echoed.
