Kisumu government has been asked to construct and repair roads in the county to ease transportation.
West Kisumu Member of County Assembly Paul Okiri said roads leading from the county's rural areas to Kisumu town are in a pathetic state thus affecting transportation, especially of farm produce to Kisumu and other towns.
He noted that the rural areas in the county produce enough food products to be supplied to markets in the town.
"We have fruits and other produce that should be transported to Kisumu and other counties for sale. This is only possible if we repair and build these roads as the rural areas are the agricultural hub of this county," he said.
Nominated MCA Lydia Odhiambo said the county government should promote farmers by ensuring that accessibility to rural areas is enhanced.
She said it is the duty of the county government to address farmers’ plight.
“Let us first promote the hardworking farmers first by ensuring that their farm produce gets to the town before building more markets."
The two were addressing the press on Tuesday at the County Assembly.
