The county government of Nyamira is once again in the limelight after a section of county residents raised questions about the newly constructed gate at Nyamira Level Four Hospital.

Led by youth activist Serah Nyaboke on Monday, the residents accused the county leadership of exaggerating the price of the gate to Sh8 million contrary to their expectations.

They threatened to marshal residents for a major demonstration over the alleged financial impropriety if the county leadership failed to respond to the accusations.

“The people of Nyamira are tired watching the county government crumble. The figures given about the construction of the new gate to the hospital are not acceptable and we will marshal the people of Nyamira to demonstrate against this grand theft that is going on. We deserve clean leadership,” she said.

They accused the hospital management of liaising with the county government to defraud tax payers millions of money through the deal.

“This gate isn’t even worth Sh2 million but when someone says it’s more than that, then we have a long way to go. Even the management cannot give a justifiable reason for this,” Nyaboke added.

However, county health officer Dr Douglas Bosire refuted the claims and warned residents against politicising matters of health.

“The county is determined to ensure that we excel in terms of health. It is unfortunate that we are coming up with accusations without even concrete proof. I think the figure they are talking about is not even what was used. They can come for proper records,” he said.
