Schools in Kisumu will benefit from a project that would see water tanks distributed to all institutions within the county's rural areas.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday at her office at the county headquarters, Education, Culture, Sports and Gender County Executive Committee (CeC) member Jennifer Kere said her ministry has come up with the project to assist schools in the rural areas to harvest rain water for use during the dry spells.

Kere said the county government is in partnership with the Constituency Development Fund of the respective constituencies to buy and distribute water tanks to the schools.

"I have already communicated to the area MPs so that we can commence the programme during the December holidays,” she said.

The programme targets schools in Nyando, Muhoroni, Seme, Kisumu West, Nyakach and part of Kisumu East Sub-County.
