Kisii County officer in charge of malaria Florence Nyakwara has said measures are in place to train more voluntary community health workers.
Speaking on Wednesday at Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital during flagging of 200 bicycles from Amref Kenya to community workers, Nyakwara said they have measures in place to train more volunteers who can help them reach residents at their homes and sensitise them on the importance of maintaining good health and how to protect them from diseases.
“We are going to train more community workers who will help us to reach residents at their homes to sensitise them about health matters,” said Nyakwara.
According to her, the move will sensitise more residents at their homes about diseases since the community workers understand their homes better because they live near them.
She urged trained volunteers to make sure they visit residents and teach them on how to live a health life.
She also challenged Amref to consider some places where bicycles cannot access and provide motorbikes to the volunteers to ease their operations.
“There are some places where bicycles cannot access, I urge Amref to consider such places and provide our community workers with motorbikes so that they can reach our people,” she requested.
