Kyleni MCA Benson Mutuku has called upon Machakos county government and the national government to speed up plans to build a dam in the area before the start of the El Nino rains.
Speaking in Kyeleni town Friday when he met women groups attending a Maendeleo ya Wanawake conference, Mutuku said the dam will help in the harvesting of rain water for future use since it is a dry region.
“The government should also consider building dams in areas that experience water shortages and not just set aside funds for evacuation of residents in case of emergencies,” he said.
He said the county can benefit from the rains which other people are claiming to bring losses.
Area Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairperson Diana Mwende, echoed the sentiments and hailed the county representative for his efforts to develop the ward.
