Nakuru County has unveiled the Implementation Steering Committee to put in action recommendations of the Nakuru County Education Taskforce report.

The report drafting involved various education stakeholders in Nakuru County, who looked into the factors contributing to poor quality of education in Nakuru County and proposed measures for enhancement.

Governor Kinuthia speaking on Monday at the commissioning of the committee that will steer the execution of the report’s references saluted the taskforce for their efforts.

"It is worth noting that the challenges cited in the report are manageable, with proper planning and with the right people to enforce the implementation process the challenges can be prevailed," he said.

He said the report is all-inclusive adding that it brings on board marginalised areas, urban slums, arid and semi-arid and rural areas and it serves as a platform for improving education standards in the entire Nakuru County.

"The report is a unifying factor for harnessing of all stakeholders' efforts towards improving the quality of education. We are certain that if all the recommendations are implemented, education in Nakuru County will be taken to the next level and this will be a county whose practices and models would be emulated elsewhere," said the governor.

He added that since the release of the report, the county government of Nakuru has started dealing with some of the challenges highlighted by the report especially in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and youth trainings.

"In the ECDE sector, the county government of Nakuru in the financial year 2013-14, constructed 149 classrooms. This year the county will construct another 124 and equip them with learning facilities," he said.

The governor also revealed that a feeding programme has been introduced for schools in arid, semi-arid and areas where needy families were mapped in all the sub-counties.

A total of 151 schools are involved in the programme with about 10, 000 children benefitting.

"We have allocated Sh33 million for the recruitment of ECDE assistants this year and have continued to work closely with other partners like Ministry of Education to improve the ECDE sector through training of teachers,” he added said.
