The county government of Nyamira has been urged to install modern trading shades in the town headquarters and other trading centres as a way of motivating traders to comply with their tax obligations.

Speaking on Tuesday at county headquarters during a meeting, traders led by chairlady Agnes Okido, said the move will be convenient since they are subjected to taxes without viable returns.

According to them, trading shades will avoid exposing them to extreme sunshine or rainy conditions besides bringing order in their operations.

“We are taxpayers just like other medium enterprises and that is what we ought to know. I want to urge the county government to use the taxes we normally pay to increase our working conditions. We need shades that will help us to work in rainy and sunny conditions,” she said.

They threatened to boycott remitting of taxes till the county government complies with their demands besides calling for reduced rates from the current Sh70 per day.

“They have a few weeks to fix the mess across the county and if they fail to do so, we will be compelled to boycott payment of taxes and that seems to be real. They also have to reduce the current charges to at most Sh50,” she added.

Recently, area Governor John Nyagarama had promised to install the shades but the process is said to have taken.
