Residents of West Mugirango in Nyamira County have called upon the county management to expeditiously repair Kebirigo-Nyakeore road which is said to be impassable during this rainy season.

Speaking on Friday during a meeting organised by area farmers, they said the condition was derailing economic activities especially the tea farming which is the major cash crop of the county.

They threatened to hold demonstrations along the highway besides hinting of a possible tax eviction in the nearby Kebirigo market as a weapon to call for services.

“This road has been ignored completely and the entire thing has made it impossible for us to conduct our businesses. This is really discouraging given that we are tax compliant. I call upon county leadership to chip in and clear the mess before we coordinate major demonstrations,” said representative Kevin Mokaya.

According to them, the deteriorating conditions of the road was making it impossible for them to execute their daily chores and mentioned that they were losing hundreds of shillings due to the unimaginable conditions of the road.

“It’s all clear that the situation isn’t good for transportation of our products. It is important to note that we are losing hundreds of shillings and the economy will have a major negative impact. This is the opportune time for the county to act on our concerns,” he added.

The road has been also reported as a major causality especially for boda boda riders with at least 10 accidents reported in a span of one week.
