A case involving Sh70 million robbery along Nakuru-Eldoret Highway was on Wednesday consolidated by a Nakuru court and recovered goods released to Golden Gate Carriers.
Lawyer Steve Kabita who watched brief on the behalf of the complainants made an application that the recovered goods be returned to owners since no one had claimed the goods and they are incurring storage charges.
The case has far seen thirteen suspects arraigned in court including 70-year-old Mary Wanjiru, her daughter-in-law who were found with one cartoon containing mobile phones at their home in Gatundu alongside a Nakuru based traffic police officer.
The thirteen, jointly are alleged to have used an offensive weapon to rob Titus Kiplagat of a motor vehicle valued at Sh9 million on July, 15, at Salgaa in Nakuru.
On second account of the same charge, they all are alleged to have been involved in robbing Abdi Fara a mobile phone valued at Sh6,000, Sh1,600 cash money, a took his national identity card and a Eldoret Airport gate pass.
They are also accused of robbing Abdishukri Alinur a mobile phone, a Samsung S3 valued at Sh2,300, and taking away his national identity card, a National Bank ATM card, employment card and Sh5, 000 in cash.
On July 28, a Traffic officer, Peter Gachie was arrested and charged in court after he was linked to the same highway theft which occurred at Salgaa area along the Nakuru Eldoret high way.
Gachie who pleaded not guilty was charged with robbery with violence after he was allegedly involved in robbing the said goods from Kiplagat while armed with a pistol and threatened to use violence against him.
According to police, the suspects with others all in traffic police uniform at 6.45pm stopped the lorry, accused the complainant of speeding before ordering the occupants enter into another car and drove them off to unknown place where the cargo was offloaded into another vehicle.
On July 31, some of the assorted goods worth Sh4 million were recovered at Syokimau in Nairobi and a suspect, Francis Kabete, charged while a canter lorry carrying mobile phones was also recovered.
Appearing before Principle Magistrate Wakumile Ndururu, they pleaded not guilty and were released on previous bond terms of Sh1 million surety bond and Sh300,000 cash bail.
The court also directed that the photographs of the goods taken by the investigative officer will be used during the trial after the goods were released.
He further ordered that the defence be supplied with all witness statements.
The case will be mentioned on November 4.
