A Naivasha court has sentenced a middle-aged man to life imprisonment on charges of robbery with violence.
David Lekai appeared before chief magistrate Steven Githinji where he faced nine counts of robbery with violence.
Lekai also faced an alternative charge of handling stolen goods and a third charge of being in possession of armoury.
The prosecution told the court that the accused, with others not before the court, broke into the homes of Ian Douglas, Trey Fehsan, Sveva Gallamann, Barney Broomfield, Nigel Adams, Amina Hassan, Joseph Kipkemoi, Victor Maina and Beth Mugure on May 13, 2011.
The court heard that the accused and his accomplices stole property worth Sh2.7 million and Sh642,850 shillings respectively from the victims while armed with AK47 rifles, rungus and pangas.
Three other co-accused were released on bond. The court was told that the partners to the accused were later shot dead in another encounter with police.
In his ruling, the magistrate argued that the prosecution had provided enough evidence that connected him to the crime.
The accused pleaded for leniency saying he had learnt his lesson. The court, however, sentenced him to serve life in prison for the crimes he had committed.
