Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) in Nyaribari Chache Sub-County has taken dental hygiene campaigns to primary schools to ensure children embrace dental health and hygiene.

The area MYWO Chairlady, Clare Ondari said the organisation was set to roll out dental health and hygiene mentorship campaigns across primary schools in Nyaribari Chache Sub-County, aimed at  empowering children with personal health skills and knowledge to guard them against dangers posed by poor personal hygiene.

Speaking at Ibeno CoG Primary school on Tuesday, Ondari said the organisation targeted school children as agents of change to carry the message to their homes and immediate communities on the need to observe personal hygiene, especially mouth and dental hygiene.

"As MYWO Nyaribari Chache Sub-County, we have initiated a teeth brushing campaign in public primary schools to ensure children maintain healthy and strong teeth to avoid contracting teeth-related ailments, which could lead to removal of their teeth due to decay," said Ondari.

Ondari said the campaign aims at reducing and curbing teeth-related diseases which cause discomfort to school children depriving them of their time to concentrate in school programmes and activities.

One of the teachers from the school, who is also the patron of the teeth brushing campaign in the school, George Morara Omariba, disclosed said the MYWO's initiative was timely as it will ensure children are empowered with health skills and knowledge to assist them take precautionary measures to avert contracting dental-related diseases which affect young children due to poor dental hygiene.

Omariba challenged other stakeholders to join the campaign across the sub-county and ensure the initiative reaches all corners of Kisii County.
