Residents of Nyaronge trading centre from Kitutu Masaba constituency have called upon the government to consider deploying security personnel to the region in a bid to combat rampant cases of theft.
Speaking to Hivisasa.com on Thursday after two shopkeepers’ lost property worth thousands of shillings to armed robbers, they gave the government an ultimatum of a week to solve the incident for the sake of promoting peace.
According to them, a group of armed robbers have been traversing the centre targeting businessmen and other well-off residents, making it habit despite constant reports made in the nearby Matutu police station.
“We are forgotten citizens yet the government has an obligation to take care of our interests. We are demanding that security personnel are deployed here to look after our security and the government has one week to fix the mess,” said Mr Nyabando Bitange on behalf of the residents.
They threatened to take the law in their own hands by lynching the suspects if an expeditious action is not taken for their own security.
“We cannot continue losing our property to robbers yet we have a clue that they are. This is the time to take the law into our own hand if nothing concrete is done,” he added.
Area chief Francis Rasugu called for tolerance and promised an expeditious action from the government to deal with law breakers.
“The request has been heard and what is important is to wait a little bit to have things fixed. I would like to call for calm as we deal with the issue,” he said.
