Nyalenda Environmental Youths Group Chairperson John Robert has challenged Nyalenda residents to come out with a strategy to allow stagnant water run to reduce chances of mosquitoes breading in such places.
In an interview with this writer on Thursday in his Nyalenda area, Robert called on the residents to make sure they safeguard their health by reducing their chances of contracting malaria by clearing bushes and removing stagnant water harbouring mosquitoes around their houses.
Robert noted that there environmental club was out to see locals live in healthier environment that would not make them contract diseases such as malaria and bilharzia.
To him, locals needed to come up with a voluntary workforce to dig trenches that would give way stagnant water to run, stating that their environmental group was in the move to help the locals and to educate them on proper habits of not staying with stagnant water and bushes around their homes.
“We discourage unhealthier living and staying close to dirty stagnant water and bushes that would impact to tropical diseases like malaria; all which is to be done is to keep our environment habitable. Dirty water aside from causing malaria, would cause water borne diseases,” noted the environmentalist.
His colleague, Emily Mwajuma also challenged everyone to take up to responsibility and see trenches are dug to let stagnant water run without any interference.
