Youths living with hearing challenges in Kisii have accused the county government of sidelining them from various projects in the county.
Speaking on Wednesday through their interpreter Elvin Omwura at the Kisii Cultural Hall during the closure of the Youths International Week, the youths urged the county government to support them so as to live better lives.
They also said the county government should consider them when job opportunities arise noting that they are also educated and if given the chance, they can perform well.
Speaking through their interpreter Omwura, one of them said they face difficulties when seeking for employment because they cannot speak and are often ignored when they visit government offices.
He revealed that some of their colleagues recently took part in a sports competition in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County where three of them won prizes and yet the county government has not offered them any support or recognition.
“Recently we were in Eldoret were we participated in some sporting activities and three of our members won prizes, but our county government did not recognise them as other counties did,” he said through the interpreter.
They have appealed to the county government to help them to get jobs and venture into activities that will boost their lives.
The Youths International Week was officiated by Kisii Governor James Ongwae.
