Residents of Karantini location in Kitutu Masaba constituency have called upon the Ministry of Lands to intervene in a bid to recover a community land that was meant for a local dispensary.

Speaking on Sunday in the area when presenting their sentiments to Gesima MCA Ken Atuti, they urged the government to expedite its investigations to recover the 3-hactare piece of land that is said to have been donated by elders years ago but has since been claimed by a private developer.

This comes at a time when the county government of Nyamira is laying a foundation to build and equip the dispensary for the sake of the residents.

“Sometimes I fail to understand why someone can come and start developing a community land. This is illegal and we need the government to step in and help us recover the land for the sake of the dispensary that it due to be built here,” said Mr Alex Obiri.

They also warned the private developer to demolish structures that had been put on the land before they descended on them.

“If the government does not expedite the process of recovering the land, we will demolish the structures if our concerns are not heard by the person purporting to own this land,” added Mr James Nyairo.

Atuti urged residents to remain calm and give investigation authorities time to investigate and substantiate the ownership of the land.

“There is no need to panic. Everyone knows who owns this land and this is just a matter of leaving it to authorities to come up with a clear report,” he said.
