Nakuru County Commissioner Mohammed Birik has warned distillery owners against intimidating chiefs by sending them death threats.

Speaking on Tuesday at Nakuru Town during a press conference, Birik said a number of chiefs from Bahati Ward especially Kiamaina Location have received death threats.

“A number of chiefs from Bahati Ward have received death threats but I assure them that the government will protect them as the fight against illicit liquor gains momentum," said Birik.

Birik said some owners of distilleries implicated in illicit liquor are the ones behind the death threats.

“Those intimidating chiefs by sending them death threats will be dealt with and the government will not spare any chance in apprehending them," said Birik.

The county commissioner said the fight against the illegal alcohol will continue until all brewing dens are eradicated.

“The fight will continue until all our youth are liberated from drug and alcohol abuse," said Birik.

He said the directive by the president must be adhered to in a bid to save the young generation from extinction.

Birik however urged those spearheading the campaign against the illegal liquor to respect other people's property saying that the provincial administration should only destroy the liquor and not property.

He also thanked Nakuru residents for their role in the fight against illicit brew and urged them to continue providing the police with information regarding the existence of the dens.
